How I fell in love with my Eczema Prone Skin: Dealing with the Stigma

Hey there, fabulous Goodie Squad!

Welcome back to the Goodie Blog!

As someone who struggled with Eczema growing up, it took a lot of learning and loving to overcome the stigma!

Living with eczema has been quite the adventure, filled with its fair share of ups and downs. From childhood to adulthood, I've experienced the highs and lows of managing flare-ups and seeking relief from the relentless itchiness and irritation that often accompany this condition.

Eczema has not only influenced my skincare routines but has also played a significant role in shaping how I care for myself overall. As a young child, my mother, Ante Yaa, spared no effort in trying to alleviate my discomfort, testing out countless creams and remedies in search of relief. As an alternative to the skin-thinning steroid creams, Ante Yaa sought and retrieved That Good Good Shea Butter from Ghana to naturally combat my eczema, instilling in me a deep appreciation and respect for its efficacy and purity. Through her unwavering support and love, I learned the importance of patience and perseverance in managing eczema's challenges.

As a teenager living with eczema, I grappled with insecurities that often revolved around the visible signs of the condition, particularly on my legs. The thought of wearing shorts during phys ed. class felt daunting, as I feared drawing attention to the redness, dry patches, and scars caused by eczema. It was a constant battle between wanting to blend in and feeling self-conscious about revealing my skin to others.

Becoming a new mom was a joyous and transformative experience as I welcomed my son into the world. Amidst the overwhelming love and excitement, I found myself grappling with the persistent challenge of eczema flare-ups. While embracing the precious moments with my son, I also navigated the complexities of managing eczema as a new mom. The sleepless nights and hormonal changes seemed to exacerbate the itchiness and discomfort, making it a constant battle to find relief. Balancing the demands of motherhood with the unpredictable nature of eczema presented its own set of challenges, yet through it all, I remained resilient, finding strength in the unconditional love I shared with my newborn.

How I Overcome

In my journey toward self-discovery and healing, I stumbled upon the remarkable benefits of shea butter – a natural ingredient with a rich history from my heritage. Inspired by my mother's wisdom and her belief in the power of nature's remedies, I embarked on a mission to harness the potential of shea butter for eczema relief. Thus, That Good Good Shea was born – a brand founded on the principles of purity, efficacy, and compassion.

Our shea butter, sourced directly from Ghana, is a testament to our commitment to quality and authenticity. Handcrafted with care and integrity, it embodies the transformative power of nature in its purest form. With That Good Good Shea, we aim to provide a gentle, natural alternative to steroid creams and harsh chemicals, offering relief to those who seek it without compromising on quality or efficacy.

Through my personal journey with eczema and the creation of That Good Good Shea, I've discovered that healing is not just about treating the symptoms – it's about nourishing the body, mind, and spirit from within. It's about finding solace and comfort in the simplicity of nature's remedies and embracing the journey toward self-acceptance and empowerment.
